4/22/2024

The malware targets Windows and Linux systems, including VMware ESXi virtual machines.

The Akira ransomware group has emerged as a major threat, extorting over $42 million from more than 250 victims since March 2023.

The malware targets Windows and Linux systems, including VMware ESXi virtual machines.

Akira employs a "double extortion" strategy, crippling victims by encrypting data and stealing sensitive files. This increases pressure to pay the ransom, as companies face not only data loss, but also the potential for leaked information.

Akira ransomware emerged in April 2023 and has already impacted over 15 publicly disclosed victims, with the majority located in the United States. These victims represent a variety of industries, such as BFSI, Construction, Education, Healthcare, banking, finance, construction and Manufacturing.
