• The US advisory is based on the research carried out on the Maui ransomware by security researchers at Stairwell. The researchers determined that the malware does not exhibit certain key features that are commonly seen in ransomware.
• Maui ransomware had been used to target organizations in the US healthcare and public health sector. The attackers deploying this ransomware assume healthcare organizations are willing to pay ransoms because these organizations provide services that are critical to human life and health.
